Nohe & Sus Santos (Nohe & Her Saints) have not sat on their hands during the pandemic. They released their debut CD, the at once subtle and intense - and completely sublime and “eloquent offering” (RootsWorld) - Tempestad, (Santo Records/Avokado Artists/distributed by Casete - May 2020), and a number of singles, including their original takes of the Christmas classics "Feliz Navidad” & “Los Peces en El Rió”, ”La Nave Del Ovido" and an acoustic version of the title track of their CD "Tempestad" (with special guest Jordan Wax of Lone Pinon). Their music was heard in the feature length film ¿Dónde Está La Cigueña? (Where Is The Stork?, September 2021). And the band's multi-talented vocalist and namesake Nohelia Sosa had a role in the hilarious feature film Half Brothers. Their return to the road in late 2021 included head-turning sets at Lotus Fest, Santa Fe Bandstand and other venues. On March 16, 2022 they head to South by Southwest as an official showcase artist.
Nohe & Sus Santos is a five-piece band mixing Spanish and English vocals with the musical traditions, rhythms and sounds of the Americas, incorporating Alt-Rock en Espanol, Cumbia, Pop grooves and beyond. They have shared stages with the diverse likes of Ozomatli, Red Pears, Making Movies, Samatha Fish, delivering a Latinx vibe full of soul, passion and a good dose of attitude, leaving dancing crowds chanting “una más!”. The band has RootsWorld enthusing “Behold a conjunto with enormous potential… Eloquent”
Featuring musicians from Honduras and the US, Nohe & Sus Santos create songs that do much more than simply cross language and cultural borders. The band explores the multicultural experience of the Latinx generation, delivering positive messages of self-identification and respect for their heritage.
Fronted by celebrated Honduran vocalist Nohelia Sosa, the band is rounded out by the extraordinary string wizardry of Randy Sanchez on electric and acoustic guitars and tres, Gilbert Uribe, the band’s pulse, on bass, and Dennis Jasso holding it all down with an impeccable groove on the drum kit. Jesse Parker is also on hand to add some magic on congas and additional percussion.
Currently Nohe & Sus Santos are working on new material for their second CD (including penning some material with with Raul Pacheco of Ozomatli) and gearing up to get back out on the road to bring their tempestad to national and international audiences (including confirmed dates at Hillside Fest, Festa Latina, Skirball Center). There will be no be seeking shelter from this storm.
Note & Sus Santos debut CD brings together everything that make Nohe & Sus Santos such a distinctive Latinx act. The band incorporates alt-rock en espanol, quirky cumbia and indie pop grooves (and beyond!). It is soulful, passionate and possesses a healthy dose of attitude. Celebrated Honduran vocalist Nohelia Sosa completes a group of fabulosos musicians that can only be described as excitingly fresh, with a style that is all its own.
Tempestad consists of 8 original compositions along with 2 classic songs interpreted by The Santos. With songs about love, loss, and healing, Tempestad refers to the storm of life and the cleansing that happens when the tempest has passed.
“Tempestad is the result of experiences involving our four individual stories, expressed by our different nationalities” enthuses Nohe. “Combining our passions and influences has been our greatest individual, personal contributions to this album. We incorporate rhythms and styles that move us, sometimes in places you don’t expect. There are no barriers, no walls, no communication breakdowns….just our Santos music!”
For the album, Nohe delivers her unmistakeable vocal chops and overall positive and powerful presence while her “Santos” provide the foundation and flow for her lyrics and melodies.
